In June 2006 Intermagnetics General Corporation was acquired by Dutch Conglomerate Philips. The firm now operates as a subsidiary with Philips Medical. Intermagnetics was a developer and manufacturer of superconducting materials, magnets and devices utilizing low-(LTS) and high- (HTS) temperature wire, cable and tape, related refrigeration equipment and radio-frequency coils. The company also distributes proprietary refrigerants to replace ozone-depleting FreonĀ®* and other products for use in industrial cooling applications. The company operates in three distinct business segments: Electromagnetics, consisting of superconducting devices and radio frequency coils; Refrigeration, consisting of cryocoolers, heat exchangers and refrigerants; and Superconducting Materials, consisting of LTS and HTS wire and cable.
