Randomness is required for a variety of computational, statistical, testing, and security related applications. Of particular interest are future commercial high-speed encryption applications, such as high-speed cryptographic key exchange for quantum cryptography. This encryption technology is expected to be coming to market in the near future, and there are currently no commercially available true random number generators that can simultaneously meet the speed and statistical requirements of this application. In this Phase I project, a chaotic entropy source based on magnetic random access memory and high-speed digital isolator technology will be developed, and the feasibility for producing a high quality gigabit per second random bit stream will be demonstrated. The Phase II portion of this project will develop and deliver a prototype single chip high-speed true random number generator.
