The key innovation of this proposal is to develop an adaptive and scalable network resource virtualization framework. The framework employs simple yet efficient mechanisms to deliver a comprehensive network resource virtualization solution through network virtualization, service discovery/advertisement, and service differentiation in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). It uses local caching to facilitate cross platform collaborations, service discovery, and resource virtualization. In addition, it requires each node to identify neighbors with high link quality to minimize flooding storms and guarantee a certain level of Quality of Service. We also propose to use our unique service evaluation and differentiation model to provide a resource virtualization by comparing and evaluating discovered services. Furthermore, we propose to use semantic service descriptions associated with a set of novel protocols to further enhance the performance. The key innovation of the approach lies in the following aspects: 1) Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) based adaptive and scalable framework; 2) semantically-rich service descriptions; 3) selective caching and dissemination of service advertisement; 4) service evaluation and differentiation model.
