A new plasma assisted chemical vapor deposition (cvd0 process achieves phenomenally high growth rates, excellent adhesion and uniquely controllable microstructures in low-z cubic materials at atmospheric pressure. Si diamond technology, inc. Proposes to extend this technology to produce cubic boron nitride (cbn) coatings, and examine their utility as oxidation barriers and tribological coatings on materials useful in aerospace applications such as ti alloys, reinforced carbon composites (rcc) and hardened steel. Cbn, with excellent oxidation resistance and outstanding mechanical strength, is a strong coating candidate to solve wear and oxidation problem. The contact team has extensive experience and unique capabilities in cvd hard coating technology; this provides a strong basis for successfully moving into cbn coatinds with minimal risk and expense.
