Digital Defense Group proposes to leverage our biometric, engineering, integration and software development talents to prove production capabilites for a Portable Multimodal Biometric Device. Digital Defense has the engineering resources and experience to quickly define, prototype and subsequently fine tune such a device. We plan to leverage available vendor technology for sensor, matching, battery, and power management, but will be the first to fully integrate all components into a small ergonomically designed hand-held Portable Multimodal Biometric Device.

Benefit:
The Portable Multimodal Biometric Device will be lightweight, rugged, biometric enrollment and matching system. This device will be able to run for at least 6 hours on battery power and withstand harsh environments at sea. The system will be buoyant and waterproof should it be accidentally dropped overboard. The batteries will be hot swappable to allow for uninterrupted operation. Enrollments will be saved in standard files and be able to be uploaded to external databases for further matching, or enrollment into the databases. The system shall be able to upload and download data files to or from external media and through wireless connections. Watch lists and access lists may be loaded into the device so that biometric data may be taken and compared against the lists to notify the operator of matches. The software will be secured in a way that access is only granted to authorized users. The biometric matching capabilities for fingerprint and Iris images will be fast enough as to not hinder the speed of operations through excessive processing time. Biometric data taken must meet the specifications in the Department of Defense (DoD) Electronic Biometric Transmission Specification (EBTS) and the Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) EBTS. The device will enroll people into the Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS) and the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS). Including all of these aspects into one device will promote the use with a user intuitive interface and lower costs across the board by cutting the amount of equipment that must be carried, maintained, and repaired.
