The opportunity to nominate for a Tibbetts Award is open to anyone familiar with the SBIR program, the aims and defined objectives.

Nominators may include:
SBIR awardees, past and current (self nomination by awardees is acceptable)
SBIR program managers and other federal personnel
Elected officials - state and federal
State and regional support organizations
Professional service providers. These may include attorneys, accountants etc and those in the financial services communities, who are variously involved in the SBIR program and with particular awardees
Associates of large firms, federal laboratories, academic institutions and others in various collaborative efforts involving SBIR funded project(s).
Note on eligible nominations.
  • Self-nomination by SBIR Awardees is permitted and actively encouraged. Many SBIR firms have been very effectively keeping their success a secret. This is a chance to tell about it.
  • Tibbetts Alumni may not receive award two years in a row i.e. those who received a Tibbetts in 1997 (last year) are NOT ELIGIBLE for re-nomination (self or otherwise) in 1998.
  • Alumni from earlier years may be re-nominated in those instances where there has been significant subsequent achievement.
  • Mailed copies of the Nomination brochure have been sent to:
    every SBIR awardee since the 1983 onset of the government-wide SBIR program for whom we have a current address
    a comprehensive listing of all organizations and individuals in the states who are known to be providing SBIR support services
    the offices of all Members of Congress - Senators and Representatives
    the Governors of every state
    all SBIR Program Managers
