National Small Busines United (NSBU)
Since 1937, NSBU has been the advocate for small business. With more than 65,000 members through
the chapters & affiliate organizations all over the United States, NSBU not only keeps small-business owners
in touch with legislative & regulatory issues that affect them, but this non-partisan advocacy group seeks to
engage the small business community to take action.
NSBU constructively engages its members in legislative & regulatory initiatives that affect the small
business community's livelihood. The organization isn't a special-interest group, but considers itself to work for
the common interest of all small businesses.
What does NSBU do?
Under the direction of a 32-member board of trustees (all volunteer small-business owners), NSBU not
only works closely with members in the House of Representative and Senate, but with its own members.
Through publications, policy forums, conferences & action alerts, NSBU keeps its members up to date
on legislation that may help or hinder small business growth. Throughout the year, NSBU members testify
on Capitol Hill on crucial issues like OSHA & EPA reform, barriers to capital, fair competition, paperwork
reduction, procurement, health care, product liability & other important topics.
NSBU also took a lead role in initiating the White House Conference on Small Business in 1980, 1986 &
1995. And NSBU continues its high-profile involvement.
Who are NSBU members?
NSBU's membership is as diverse as the small business field. They are carpenters, consultants,
manufacturers, retailers, grocers, designersthe small businesses that make up the backbone of America. As a
nationwide organization, NSBU's members also include state & regional small-business affiliated groups as well as
NSBU chapters.
Currently, Texas, Illinois & Colorado have formalized NSBU chapters. Nebraska, as well as other states, are
in the process of building chapters.
