In this part of the site are listed the Company Capability Statements accepted from a range of SBIR Awardees variously involved in doing what can be judged leading-edge work in their space.
Acceptance of Nutshells is NOT automatic. As received, all applications are carefully reviewed by the Evaluation Team. Some will be edited; a few will be returned for major re-write.
In this context, it is important to stress that what the firm has accomplished in SBIR - in terms of what technologies have been developed, what business milestones may have been reached - is actually less important than how what that firm has achieved to date is evidence of what they are capable of doing. In other words, the focus here is to in-place skills sets and to demonstrated capabilities as much as it is to specific technology accomplishments for possible insertion.

In the field of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) research, three observations have received the greatest attention; the appearance of amyloid plaques, the appearance of neurofibrillary tangles, and the presence of neuroinflammation (inflammatory response).
The holy grail of AD research has been the search for a single unifying event that would lead to all three hallmarks of the disease. Scout Diagnostics has data that the protein complex is the event. Research shows that know protein complex (biomarker) produces paired helical filaments (PHFs) in cell culture - precursor of neurofibrillary tangles; protein complex causes increased production of the beta amyloid peptide in cell culture and the beta am-loid peptide increases production of the protein complex in choroid plexus cells; results indicate that protein complex activates inflammatory response elements in astrocytes. Holy grail found: single event in pathogenesis of AD tying together all current hallmarks.
